FaltyDL - Straight and Arrow (Four Tet remix)

A year later and New York's FaltyDL is finally gearing up for his follow-up release, dubbed Hardcourage. "Straight and Arrow" will serve as the project's initial single as today we have a nice reworking of the track, courtesy of London's Four Tet. You can check out the extensive remix below

Four Tet - Thirtysixtwentyfive

Originally released in 1998 (!) Thirtysixtwentyfive was a debut single from Kieran Hebden for Output.
36 minutes and 25 seconds (hence the title) of pure cross-genre revelation sounds more like a DJ mix, but yet it's a single track making a perfect sense right from the start to it's termination.

Burial, Four Tet & Thom Yorke - Ego/Mirror

Heavily anticipated collaboration between Will Bevan (Burial) and Kieran Hebden (Four Tet), accomanied by Radiohead's frontman, Thom Yorke. The two tracks were pressed on  a highly-limited (300 copies) vinyl released by Four Tet's Text Records. It's not a mystery nor a surprise that the whole stock was sold out in just under an hour.

Side A: Ego
The track opens with a bassline typical for Burial's tracks (at first, you can even mistake it with his "Raver" tune), then Hebden's melodic arrangements kick in, inevitable inviting the third musketeer to complete the charm. Yorke's croon creates a truly warm center amidst the blend, giving the track a whole new dynamic and rhythmic. It is rather rare that the collaboration between  great artists stays faithul to all the styles involved, yet this track delivers just that. Strange percussive tweaks and odd keyboard lines characteristic for Four Tet ride and fall all the way through the track, just to the point where a warming piano kicks in, accompanied by Burial's shreded vocal sampling, creating a rather beautiful coda for the 6 minutes journey.

Side B:  Mirror
Mirror sounds more like a Burial's solo try on Yorke's vocal's, bringing to your mind and ears his previous genuine releases.

Ghostpoet feat. Rox - To Something

Many people in the past have made the same thing as Mr.Obaro Ejimiwe aka Ghostpoet - take well known track and add their own vocals to the composition. I cannot however recall many examples when this procedure worked as well as in this case. "To Something" is a cover of Four Tet's track "She Just Likes To Fight" from one of the best albums this year, "There Is Love In You". The blend of Ghostpoet's relaxed verses and Four Tet's production skills is simply amazing and the up-and-comer Rox completes the charms with her great voice. I hope Obaro invited her to sing on his upcoming album on Brownswood Recordings, cause this duo has an enormous potential.

Check out the song, it's absolutely beautiful, you can download it for FREE here. And as you're on it, Brownswood Recordings released his new EP, "The Sound Of Strangers", containing four tracks, three original compositions blessed with playful prose, one remix of A Tribe Called Quest’s ‘Electric Relaxation (Relax Yourself Girl)’ and a feature from left-leaning pop mastermind Micachu. Also available for a free download from Ghostpoet's bandcamp page. It's a great foretaste of his album, which I simply cannot wait to hear...
